Exploded view of the SCOS LCoS device stack: AR-coated cover glass, ITO electrode, engineered alignment layers, proprietary high-Δn liquid crystal under 5 µm, precision dielectric mirror, CMOS silicon backplane with analog driving and PCB.
Device stack of our Gen 1 LCoS phase modulator for WSS and OCS.
01

High-birefringence liquid crystal

Our proprietary nematic LC has Δn = 0.28 at 1550 nm, versus about 0.2 for industry materials. It reaches the same phase depth with a <5 µm layer instead of ~8 µm. Because response time scales with thickness squared, the thinner cell is much faster, and it also cuts fringing fields for lower crosstalk and better large-angle efficiency.

Engineered device stack

We optimise the alignment layers for faster molecular response and add a precision dielectric mirror to raise reflectivity above 90%. Analog driving from the CMOS backplane gives continuous phase with very low jitter (±0.03 rad).
